WILD COAST TOURNAMENT ANGLER REPORT |
|
September is always tough for bream in the Port river on lures and this proved to be no exception at the SABT classic on father's day 4th of September.
Once again Jason and myself bombed out in the pre fish failing to catch or even see a bream and it was a relief when at the briefing we drew 6th and were rather content that we had finally pulled a starting position in the top 10.
Sunday morning was a glorious morning and i was good to have gotten a good night sleep and after a quick bacon and egg sandwiche the boat was checked and key tag obtained ready for the start at 7.00am.
Our number was called and as soon as we got out of the Angas inlet we high tailed it to a creek to fish north of the inlet to fish a prepare for the run out tide.
We made our way up the creek casting as we went and when we got to our designated stop point we chilled out and waited. Not long after we heard another boat come up the river and it was organiser Tom Deer and after a quick howdy he left us to fish the creek to ourselves. After a quick decision we high tailed it to another creek to no avail and after the first 3 hours we hadn't yet seen or hooked a bream.
Another quick decision was made and we found ourselves back in the Angas Inlet drifting plastics under the mangroves with the tide and it was here we finally started to get hits and see fish. I hooked a legal only to pull the hooks after a very brief tussle and that was to be it for the day. Confidence was low and by 1pm we had , had enough and it was time to hit the bar at the Angas inlet boat club for a well deserved bevy. We weren't the only ones with the same idea.
Seeing that it was father's day there were two fathers fishing with their children which is very encouraging and well done to Tom for allowing this to happen.
Once again the Team Wirth took top honours and i say a big well done guys as you are leading the way in the comps and have a lot of guys scratching their heads. Thank you must go to Tom and Darryl for organising the event and to the AIBC. See you all in December.
